Proffitt was Citadel Broadcasting’s president and chief operating officer when Larry Wilson was the company’s chief executive.  He picks up his former title at Wilson's newly-created Alpha Broadcasting.

Proffitt exited Citadel in July 2003 after Wilson sold the company to Forstmann Little.  Last year he joined CBS Radio as a senior vice president and market manager for the Las Vegas cluster.  Proffitt's exit there is likely to fuel speculation CBS Radio is considering selling its stations in the 33rd biggest market.  CBS Radio has said it wants to focus on the top 20 markets.
