Sara Morgan Moscowitz

The Syfy cable television network hires Sara Morgan Moscowitz as VP of strategic marketing.  She most recently was an SVP at Premiere Radio Networks.  It’s a return to cable TV for Moscowitz, who prior to Premiere work for Discovery Communications and worked with Lifetime Television while working at Carat USA.

 


John Mulrooney

Cumulus hires John Mulrooney for morning drive co-host duties on rock WPHD, Poughkeepsie, NY (101.5).  He joins host Mark Cooper for what will be known as the “Coop and Mulrooney in the Morning.”  Mulrooney’s radio background includes stints on New York’s “Mix 105” (that’s now urban “Power” WWPR; rock WMMS, Cleveland; rock WPYX, Albany; and “Howard 101” on Sirius-XM.  The 25-year stand-up comic also has a lot of TV experience, including replacing Joan Rivers as host of Fox-TV’s “The Late Show” before hosting another late-night comedy show, “Comic Strip Live.”  

 


Kris Olinger

Kris Olinger, the longtime head of AM programming for Clear Channel’s Denver cluster, is leaving the company.  Olinger has been with the Denver stations – news/talk KOA (850) and talkers KHOW (630) and KKZN (760) – since the 1980s, serving as a news person, news director, air talent, program director and operations manager. 



Andrew Langston

WDKX, Rochester, NY (103.9) owner/founder Andrew Langston died June 10.  He was 83.  After working in the clothing and insurance sales businesses, Langston turned his attention to radio.  He began his effort to get an FM in 1968 and six years later signed on the market’s first urban radio station in April 1974 selecting the WDKX call letters in honor of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X.  In recent years his son Andre Langston has run the station.

 


Phil Hendrie

Talk Radio Network’s Phil Hendrie picks up his first international affiliate: Astral’s news/talk CFRB, Toronto (1010).  TRN says Hendrie has added nine other stations including Detroit (WDTW); San Antonio (KRPT); Greensboro (WZTK); Buffalo (WWKB); Reno (KBZZ); Grand Forks (KNOX): Lawrence, KS (KLWN) and Moscow Mills, MO (KYRO).

 


Sheldon Sharpless

Magnum Broadcasting’s country WPHB, Johnstown-Altoona (1260) parts ways with longtime morning personality Sheldon Sharpless. 

 


 

Tony Cennamo

Boston radio is remembering WBUR overnight jazz show host Tony Cennamo, who died June 8 following a seizure in April.  He was 76.  Cennamo retired from WBUR in 1997.  His radio career began at Boston’s WCAS in 1967 and five years later WBUR offered him a weekly jazz show.   He eventually hosted morning drive, nights and then overnights.

 


Dave Severino
Citadel hires Dave Severino as its Los Angeles cluster’s VP/director of sales. He joins from CBS Radio’s L.A. cluster where he spent more than a decade and was most recently GSM for CHR “97.1 Amp Radio” KAMP.

Fort Smith broadcasters are remembering Gary Elmore, who died yesterday following complications from a recent heart attack.   He was 56.  Elmore has been on Fort Smith-area airwaves since 1972 when he dropped out of college to pursue his passion: radio.  He’s most recently been PD/morning host on Clear Channel talk KWHN (1320).

Clear Channel transfers Jackson Blue from Dallas to CHR “Z-104.3” WZFT, Baltimore for morning drive.  Blue has been afternoon drive personality on CHR “106.1 Kiss FM” KHKS, Dallas for the past two years and previously worked at Clear Channel’s “Kiss 108” WXKS, Boston where he continues to voicetrack nights. Blue is also the host of Westwood One’s syndicated “Party Playhouse.”

Taos, New Mexico broadcasters are remembering DMC Broadcasting news director Patricia Chambers, who died June 8 after a brief illness.  Chambers, a former reporter for The Taos News, began working for DMC in December 2008. She handled news for all four stations as well as the radiointaos.com website.  The New Jersey native worked for print and radio news most of her career.

Tuscaloosa, AL general manager Ronnie Quarles died June 8 after a long cancer battle. He was 57.  Quarles managed adult hits “Jack FM” WNPT-FM and “Talk Radio 1230” WTBC for John Sisty Enterprises for the past nine years.  Quarles previously worked in TV and newspaper, and also did on-air work for WTBC for Tuscaloosa legend Bert Bank.

Clear Channel transfers Miami programmer Rich McMillan to Birmingham where he takes over as PD of AC “Magic 96.5” WMJJ.  He succeeds Lance Balance.  McMillan most recently was PD of Miami’s rhythmic AC WMIA-FM (93.9) and classic rock WBGG-FM (105.9).

Clear Channel hires Todd Violette as MD/morning drive host for AC “100.3 The Sound” WSDD, St. Louis.  Violette previously served as PD for Cumulus AC “B-95.1” KBBY-FM, Oxnard-Ventura and AC “Cruise @ 97.5” KRUZ, Santa Barbara.  Prior to that, he held positions at CBS Radio in Sacramento and Entercom in Kansas City.

Fort Smith, AR broadcasters are remembering Gary Elmore, who died June 7 following complications from a recent heart attack.   He was 56.  Elmore has been on Fort Smith-area radio since 1972 when he dropped out of college to pursue his passion: radio.  He’s spent the last 19-years at Clear Channel talk KWHN (1320) where he’s anchored mornings.  Four years ago Elmore won the Arkansas Associated Press “President’s Award.”

Michael Baisden

Citadel Media adds new “Michael Baisden Show” affiliates in Seattle (KYIZ), Las Vegas (KCEP) and Des Moines (KJMC) bringing his line-up to 75 stations.  The program is the top-rated afternoon show (Adults 25-54) in Miami, Charlotte, Baltimore, Cleveland and Orlando.

Rickey Smiley

Radio One adds the syndicated “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” to urban “Z-107.9” WENZ, Cleveland replacing Russ Parr’s syndicated show.  Smiley tweeted that he received blessings from Parr about taking his Cleveland affiliate. Radio One says Smiley’s also added new affiliates in Charleston (WIHB), Louisville (WWPW), Montgomery (WKXN) and Tyler (KBLZ-KAZE).

Westwood One announces sportscaster Marv Albert will leave the network’s NFL team where he’s called Monday Night Football and Super Bowl broadcasts.  No successor has been announced.  WFAN, New York morning host Boomer Esiason remains Westwood One’s lead broadcast analyst.

Double O Radio hires WACH-TV, Columbia, SC news and weather anchor Tim Miller as general manager for its Columbia radio combo: country "New 92" WWNU-FM (92.1) and classic hits "Flashback 94.3" WWNQ. He succeeds Chuck McKay. Miller was previously an ops manager for Citadel in the market. He’s previously worked for Entercom and Nationwide.

Radio One hires Jamillah Muhammad as program director of urban AC "Majic 102.3" WMMJ, Washington, succeeding Kathy Brown, who exited last month. Muhammad most recently programmed Clear Channel urban AC "Mix 92.3" WMXD, Detroit although she previously worked for Radio One in Chicago and Milwaukee.

GapWest Broadcasting hires Cheryl Salamone as general manager of its Yakima, WA cluster, succeeding David Roederer, who resigned last month. The Yakima Herald-Republic reports Salamone oversaw the six-station cluster from 2000 to 2004 for Clear Channel.

Salem "News Talk 990" WNTP, Philadelphia "All About Real Estate" talk show host Jay Lamont exits reports the Inquirer. He hosted the Saturday show for 31 years on Greater Media’s sports WPEN (950) for 31-years until the show was cut last September.

Financial advice guru Dave Ramsey move to talk "The Voice" KSEV, Houston (700) starting Tuesday (2-4pm CT). The show had been heard on Clear Channel’s talk "950 Radio Mojo" KPRC. "The Dave Ramsey Show" can be heard on more than 450 radio stations nationwide with 4.5 million listeners weekly.

After four years, Fox News Radio’s "Brian & the Judge" comes to an end as Judge Andrew Napolitano steps away from radio to focus on his new Fox Business Channel show. In its place, Fox will debut "Kilmeade and Friends" on Monday hosted by Brian Kilmeade. The show will feature a rotation of Fox News Channel correspondents to discuss the news of the day. His new show remains in the 9am-12 Noon (ET) timeslot.

"Chicago Public Radio" WBEZ (91.5), Michigan Radio, and Cleveland's ideastream (90.3 WCPN and WVIZ/PBS) hire New York Times journalist Micheline Maynard as editor for the "Changing Gears: Remaking the Manufacturing Belt" Upper Midwest Local Journalism Center (LJC). The Center is a new editorial collaboration funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to report on a single story -- the transformation of the Upper Midwest’s industrial-based economy to a post-manufacturing one.

Emmis hires Angie May Cook for the newly created role of vice president of Emmis Digital. She begins her new role June 1 and will work out of the Emmis-Chicago offices. Veteran Motor City personality Chris Edmonds joins Greater Media AC "Magic 105.1" WMGC, Detroit for afternoon drive beginning Tuesday. He takes over the slot that Premiere-syndicated host Ryan Seacrest has held since February 2009. Edmonds most recently served as Dick Purtan's temporary replacement in mornings at CBS Radio’s "Oldies 104.3" WOMC, following Purtan’s retirement. Prior to that, Edmonds spent 20 years on the air at Clear Channel Motor City AC WNIC (100.3).

Greater Media hires Brent Alberts as programmer of classic rock WCSX, Detroit. While there, he worked as Director of Programming and Operations for the Midwest Region. In addition, he served as Program Director of WMMQ-FM & WFMK-FM Lansing and was an on-air afternoon drive personality on WFMK-FM.

Beasley’s AC WJBR, Wilmington, DE (99.5) promotes Dave Cruise to morning drive, joining co-host Jil Quale. Cruise has been on-air at WJBR and country sister WXTU, Philadelphia for part-time work the past few months. He’s worked on and off for Beasley since 2002.

Philadelphia is remembering radio and television personality William "Wee Willie" Webber, who died May 23 of a heart attack. He was 80. Webber hosted a childrends television show on Philadelphia television for two decades. He also worked at WPEN, WHAT, WIP and WFIL.

Citadel Media hires Edwin Rivera-Searles to senior vice president of sales for the network. He most recently was VP/sales manager for Premiere Radio Network’s New York office. Citadel Media also names Craig Rossi to VP of West Coast sales. Rossi previously worked for partner Citadel Broadcasting as western regional prevision and directly sales for the company’s Los Angeles station cluster, which includes classic rock KLOS (95.5), news/talk KABC (790) and the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Radio Network. Prior to joining Citadel, he held positions in both sales and station management for the Clear Channel Los Angeles cluster.
