Radiothon raises $162,000 for school shooting support.
A 12-hour radiothon staged by Cox Media Group’s Connecticut cluster raised $162,000 in phone donations for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. The fund is being managed by the United Way of Western Connecticut, which will distribute the money to people in the local community impacted by the Newtown elementary school massacre. The total doesn’t include internet and walk-in donations.
Chaz from the “Chaz & AJ in the Morning” show heard on rock WPLR (99.1) and classic rock WFOX (95.9) stayed on until noon Friday and took listener calls. “Days like these are one of the reasons you get into radio,” operations manager Keith Dakin says. “Helping the community, particularly this terrible event, is what we do best.”
