Moving swiftly to fill the void from the Feb. 2 departure of morning man Ryan Cameron, Entercom urban “V-103” WVEE Atlanta is reuniting Frank Ski, Miss Sophia and Wanda Smith, who will return to the station on Feb. 12.
Ski anchored mornings on “V-103” from 1998-2012 and has a proven track record in the market. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the station was No. 1 in all key demos during his tenure. After leaving the station, Ski worked in the Washington, DC radio market before returning to Atlanta, taking a part-time position at “V-103,” in April 2016.
Miss Sophia (Joe Taylor) – credited as being the first drag queen to be a regular on Atlanta radio – left “V-103” in 2010 and worked for a short time at crosstown hip-hop “Streetz 94.5,” the W233BF/WSTR-HD3 simulcast owned by Steve Hedgewood’s Prism Broadcasting Network. Smith left the station in 2013 but returned a year later, the Journal-Constitution said.
Cameron, who is exiting to become a partner at the branding firm Rakanter, turned down two offers from Entercom to stay on at the station, his agent Norm Schrutt told the paper. “I was surprised,” Schrutt said. “But when he explained it to me, I understood. He is more than a talent. I want the right things for my friend.”
