North Carolina – Rev. Thomas Walker’s Trey And Associates files a $250,000 deal to buy gospel/R&B oldies WCPS, Tarboro, NC (760) from Johnson Media Group. The deal also includes the Tarboro, NC-licensed translator W242DG at 96.3 FM. Once the sale closes Jimmy Johnson will still own sports “1230 The Ticket” WCBT, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Virginia – Baker Family Stations files a $165,000 deal to buy classic hits “Bright Radio 105.7” WMXH-FM, Harrisonburg, VA and classic country “Rascal 1330” WRAA, Luray, VA from Hayden Hamilton Media Strategies. Baker Family Stations will operate the stations under a time brokerage agreement until closing. It will switch the combo to noncommercial status and air the contemporary Christian “Spirit FM” network on the pair. Broker: Jorgenson Broadcast Brokerage
Mississippi – Sharon Kent and Susan Benning’s Southern Electronics files a $124,826 deal to buy country “95.1The Hawg” WONA-FM, Vaiden, MS from Brantley Broadcast Associates. The agreement includes a promissory note for the full purchase price. Southern Electronics already owns country “95.1 The Farm” WLEE-FM in the Tupelo, MS market.
Reno, NV – Evans Broadcasting Company files a $20,000 deal to buy oldies KSVL, Smith, NV (92.3) from Donegal Enterprises. Jerry Evans already owns four station in the Reno market including AC “Fun 101” KRFN, “99.1 FM Talk” KKFT, alternative “Alt 92.1” KRAT, and “Cowboy Country 1300” KCMY.
Pennsylvania – Northeastern Pennsylvania Educational TV Association files a $17,600 deal to buy alternative WVBU-FM, Lewisburg, PA (90.5) from Bucknell University. The Northeastern Pennsylvania Educational TV Association already owns PBS affiliate WVIA-TV and classical/news-talk WVIA-FM (89.9) in the Wilkes Barre-Scranton, PA market. It also owns WVYA, Williamsport, PA (89.7); WPAU, Palmyra Township, PA (91.5); WTIO, Mainesburg, PA (88.3); and several FM translator stations. Under the terms of the deal Bucknell students will be permitted to use the “WVBU” branding for six months as they create online audio-video streaming channels.
Colorado Springs – Gabrielle Broadcasting has filed to put religious “1580 The Trumpet” KFCS into the hands of a receiver. Per a court order Jim Mross will oversee the AM while a pending dispute between Gabrielle and Pilgrim Communications is sorted out. Jacob Barker’s Gabrielle Broadcasting purchased KFCS from Randy Hood’s Pilgrim Communications for $250,000 in 2016. The sale included a $225,000 promissory note.
SALES – TRANSLATORS
Allentown-Bethlehem, PA – Cumulus Media is picking up another translator in the Allentown-Bethlehem, PA market as part of its swap with Connoisseur Media. Cumulus will secure the construction permit for the Easton, PA-licensed translator W279DM at 103.7 FM. The station will relay the “Fox Sports Radio” simulcast of WEEX (1230) and WTKZ (1320). Cumulus is picking up the two AMs from Connoisseur along with classic rock “99.9 The Hawk” WODE-FM, alternative “Spin Radio 107.1” WWYY. In exchange it’s handing off AC WEBE (107.9) and news/talk WICC (600) in the Bridgeport, CT market to Connoisseur. Broker: MVP Capital
Mississippi – John and Melinda Marsalis’ JC Media closes a $750,000 to buy classic country “Kudzu 104.9” WKZU, Iuka, MS and classic hits “The Shark 102.3” WSKK, Ripley, MS from Joan Peters’ Kudzu Communications. JC Media doesn’t own any other stations.
North Carolina – Peace Baptist Church of Wilmington closes a $250,000 deal to buy the gospel WGHW, Lockwoods Folly Town, NC (88.1) from Church Planters of America. Church Planters of America still owns three stations in North Carolina.
LaSalle-Peru, IL – Fletcher Ford’s Virden Broadcasting closes a $225,000 deal to buy classic hits “Z-98.1” WZOE, classic country WRVY-FM (100.5), and “News Talk 1490” WZOE from Stephen Samet. The sale includes a $100,000 promissory note. Virden Broadcasting already owns three stations in the nearby Quad Cities market.
Hattiesburg-Lauren, MS – Tillman Broadcasting Network closes a $95,000 deal to buy “Power Gospel” WAML, Lauren, MS (1340) and WMLC (1270) from Walking By Faith Ministries. The deal also includes the Collins, MS-licensed translator W236DD at 95.1 FM. Charles Tillman already owns gospel WCHJ, Brookhaven, MS (1470). Walking By Faith Ministries still owns “Power Gospel” sister WQFX (1130) in the Biloxi, MS market.
