Roger Christian

Four-plus decades of work at the same station didn’t help Roger Christian survive cuts being made by Entercom across the country. Christian, midday talent at hot AC “Star 102.5” WTSS Buffalo, was told his position has been eliminated.

“They said something about [the shift] may be voice tracked but I didn’t want to go into it,” Christian told The Buffalo News. “I was a little shocked, but I just know that it's the nature of the business now.”

Christian had been with the station for 43 years, working under its previous monikers of “Rock 102” and “Majic 102.5,” the paper reports.

Christian says he knows the mandate came from corporate and not from local management. “I know [Market Manager] Greg Ried really was pulling for me because he said when he was in Olean, he grew up listening to me on the air on 102.5,” Christian said. “They were all in my corner and they tried to push it back as long as they could. I understand that, but it's just out of their hands.”

Entercom has been eliminating positions at radio stations across the country, resulting in talent exits in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Portland, Denver, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
