AMC Partners adds to its Michigan portfolio with the purchase of eight Northern Michigan radio stations from Sovereign Communications for an undisclosed price.
The deal includes five stations in the Marquette area: “Big Country 92.3” WJPD, “94 Rock” WUPK, “Oldies 99.5” WNGE, talk WDMJ (1320) and talk WIAN (1240). In the Iron Mountain-Escanaba region, the company gains “93 Rock” WIMK, “Talk Radio 1450” WMIQ and hot AC “Star 94.3” WZNL.
AMC Partners, also known as Armada Media, will place the new stations under its Radio Results Network umbrella, according to WLUC-TV. Radio Results Networks currently operates stations in Marquette, Escanaba and Manistique.
“We are excited to be able to expand our coverage even further as the premier media company in Central Upper Michigan,” Radio Results Network General Manager Jesse Huff told WLUC-TV. “Sovereign Communications has a tremendous group of radio stations with a long heritage of serving the local community. This now gives us 23 radio stations in the Central Upper Peninsula that are each committed to great local radio and serving as a resource for the communities in which we serve.”
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past ten years with these great radio stations,” Sovereign Communications President and Owner Bill Curtis added. “The opportunity to allow these stations to be transitioned to a new ownership group like Armada Media was too perfect to pass up. We remain committed to Sault Ste. Marie, Newberry and the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That will not change.”
After the sale closes, Sovereign Communications will still own seven radio stations in Michigan.
