Denver has a new outlet for news/talk, this one specializing in big name national hosts. “Freedom 93.7” launched today (July 15) on iHeartMedia’s KDFD (760), simulcast on the Lakewood, CO-licensed translator K229BS at 93.7. The flip had been expected after iHeart dropped the “Orange & Blue 760” Denver Broncos-centric format on the AM signal last week and adopted the new KDFD calls.
Adding an FM translator to the former KDSP’s 50,000-watt AM signal allows the company to provide an FM home for some of its biggest syndicated hosts, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Buck Sexton. “Freedom 93.7” also carries “Ground Zero,” a five-hour live broadcast hosted by Clyde Lewis, originating from the studios of Alpha Media news/talk KXL-FM Portland, OR and syndicated live by Premiere. The podcast Crime Stories, with former prosecutor and television show host Nancy Grace, is part of the programming mix. And the station ventures beyond the Premiere stable to clear “The Dave Ramsey Show” and “The Ken Coleman Show” (which is syndicated by Ramsey’s company) and Compass Media Network’s “This Morning with Gordon Deal.”
The scope is decidedly national, complementing news/talk “NewsRadio” KOA, which is staffed mostly with local hosts and a morning drive news block. KOA has been carrying a 30-minute version of Limbaugh’s program.
The new station will also feature Fox News segments, regular traffic reports and local news updates.
“With massive FM coverage, a 50,000 watt AM signal and unmatched digital distribution, we are confident that Freedom 93.7 will quickly become a favorite destination for Colorado talk radio listeners,” Tim Hager, President of the iHeartMedia Denver Region, said in a release.
“The launch of Freedom 93.7 on 93.7 FM and 760 AM is an exciting opportunity to showcase some of the most-listened-to national talk radio stars, live in a single lineup, on this far-reaching simulcast,” added Peter Tripi, Premiere Networks Senior VP of Affiliate Sales, Talk and Morning Shows. “This is a win for Denver area talk radio fans.”
In addition to KOA, Denver is home to Colorado Public Radio news/talk KCFR-FM (90.1). KSDP had been airing Orange & Blue 760” since July 2017, when it transitioned from “Denver Sports 760.”
