iHeartMedia Chicago promotes veteran programmer Derrick Brown to VP of Urban Programming for the Chicago region. Brown, who most recently held the title of Director of Urban Programming, continues his day-to-day programming role at urban AC “V103” WVAZ and will also oversee all programming and digital operations of urban contemporary WGCI (107.5) and urban gospel “Inspiration 1390” WGRB.
“Derrick is a consummate professional, a trailblazer and one of the best programming minds in the business,” iHeartMedia Chicago President Matt Scarano said in a release. “This promotion is a natural evolution based on his stellar track record and history of success.”
Senior VP of Programming James Howard added, “Derrick ’s exemplary record of success with our Urban Brands puts this promotion into the no - brainer bucket of decisions. We are beyond fortunate to have him at the helm of the Chicago Region’s phenomenal urban brands.”
Brown joined “V103” in 2007 after programming stations in Miami, Denver and Washington. A Chicago area native, Brown had early career stops at news/talk WJOL (1340), WGCI-FM and also served as APD at AC WLIT-FM (93.9).
“Being part of the iHeartMedia Chicago team has been the most rewarding part of my career,” said Brown. “I look forward to continuing to lead our Urban music brands and extend an unparalleled track record of success into the next decade.”
