The much-heralded return of DreX to mornings in Chicago was short-lived as the host, whose real name is Kevin Buchar, exits Entercom rhythmic CHR “B96” WBBM-FM after less than a year. DreX, who previously hosted mornings at iHeartMedia crosstown CHR “Kiss 103.5” WKSC-FM from 2002-2010, was tapped to do mornings at “B96” in April 2018.
“He will remain a friend to many of us and I want to thank him for being a great teammate and true professional in every sense of the word,” VP/programming Todd Cavanah said in an internal email acquired by Chicago media reporter Robert Feder.
Upon his return to the market, DreX was partnered with Nina Hajian from the former “92.3 Amp Radio” WBMP New York and Gabe Ramirez, a holdover from the previous “B96” morning show. Hajian and Ramirez will continue in AM drive going forward.
“During the past 10 months, Gabe and Nina have developed not only a friendship off the air but a great deal of chemistry with each other and the audience on-air, at our bashes, their appearances and their social media platforms,” Cavanah said. “We see an enormous potential with both of these rising stars to achieve our goals on B96 for mornings. Gabe and Nina will take over mornings immediately, and we are confident that their engagement with each other and the listeners will be a huge success.”
The “DreX and Nina” show never cracked a 2 share in the Chicago PPMs among persons 6+. The previous program, “The J Show,” left with a 2.7 in March, which dropped to a 1.9 the following month and has been flat or down over the last 10 months, finishing with a 1.6 in the most recent Holiday book.
