A new deal between Entercom and Premiere Networks will keep Colin Cowherd on “1080 The Fan” KFXX, Portland, OR where he’s been heard since 1997. Entercom is also dropping CBS Sports Radio from sister station KMTT in favor of a 24-7 ESPN affiliation as “910 ESPN-Portland.”
Entercom’s dual sports strategy in Portland positions “The Fan” as the place for local sports coverage and the new “910 ESPN-Portland” as the spot for national action. And although Cowherd, who recently left ESPN for Fox Sports/Premiere, is part of the Fan lineup, he was a local host at the station from 1997-2003 before joining ESPN.
“I’m on the station I should be,” Cowherd said in a press release. “It’s been my home since day one.”
“We are committed to bringing the best local and national shows to Portland,” KFXX and KMTT GM Tim McNamara said. “1080 The FAN will continue to be the market leader. We are also proud to offer 910 ESPN-Portland on KMTT, for the best national talk and play-by-play.”
The reshuffled Fan lineup moves former mid-afternoon show “Dusty and Cam” to the 6am-9am slot, followed by “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” from 9am-noon. Dirt & Sprague shift from mid-mornings to the noon-3pm position, followed by “Primetime with Isaac and Suke” which remains in the 3pm-7pm slot. The Fan will continue to air ESPN content on nights and weekends and some play-by-play.
“This means our original, popular lineup is intact and even stronger, with the added benefit of a local morning show on the station for the first time since Colin left The Fan to become a national host,” added KFXX and KMTT program director Jeff Austin.
