Joel Heitkamp

Joel Heitkamp, operations manager for Midwest Communications talk “The Mighty 790” KFGO and sports “740 The Fan” KNFL in the Fargo, ND market is out of the building in self-quarantine after he tested positive for COVID-19. But he remains on the air on KFGO where he hosts the three-hour “News & Views” late-morning program.

Heitkamp, 58, began to show symptoms of the virus last weekend, including the loss of taste and smell, as well as feeling body aches. Heitkamp is now hosting his radio show from home until he is cleared to return to the offices.

“After talking with people in the medical field, it certainly looks as though I’m going to be one of the lucky ones in terms of how this has infected me,” Heitkamp said during his show on Thursday.

Midwest Communications radio stations in Fargo have required masks for employees for several weeks.

In addition to KFGO, Heitkamp’s show also airs on Townsquare Media’s “Super Talk 1270” Bismarck, ND; Cherry Creek Radio’s “660 News Radio” KEYZ, Williston, ND; Simmons Multimedia’s talk/country KNDK, Langdon, ND (1080); and Simmons Multimedia’s talk “Expo Radio 1340” KXPO, Grafton, ND.
