WLIT Christmas

Christmas comes to Chicago this afternoon as iHeartMedia hot AC “93.9 Lite FM” WLIT-FM flips the switch to Christmas at 4pm. PD/Afternoon host Mick Lee will be joined by morning talent Melissa Forman and midday host Robin Rock for the on-air holiday kickoff.

“There’s no place like home for the holidays and we are delighted to be Chicagoland’s home for holiday cheer in our 19th year,” Lee said in a release. “We’re honored that so many Chicagoans include us in their annual holiday traditions and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with Christmas music, fun contests, and a few new surprises along the way.”

The Windy City got a Christmas preview Friday (Nov. 2) when Hubbard AC WSHE-FM played an afternoon of holiday favorites. “Having some fun playing Christmas music for a wintry Friday commute home,” Market Manager Jeff England told Chicago media reporter Robert Feder. By Friday evening the station was back to regular programming.

Gwen Stefani will help iHeartMedia AC KOST Los Angeles (103.5) kick off their annual Christmas programming with a free concert Friday, Nov. 8. “It’s our “KOST 103.5 Holiday Kick-Off Party” and we don’t want you to miss out on the fun,” a web posting reads. “Come have a cup of holiday cheer as you enjoy a performance from Gwen Stefani… with a very special appearance from Santa and hosted by KOST's very own Ellen K.” KOST will make the flip to Christmas on Friday before the “Holiday Kick Off Party.”

Meanwhile, Beasley Media Group is resting “Oldies 94.7,” which airs on the HD2 channel of classic rock WCSX Detroit. In place are Christmas staples such as Bobby Helms “Jingle Bell Rock,” Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” Burl Ives’ “Holly Jolly Christmas,” Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” among others.

“We’re interrupting our normal HD2 station programming, which features great oldies’ stars like Elvis, the Temptations and the Beach Boys to bring listeners the very best Christmas music experience,” Program Director Jerry Tarrants said in a release. “Tis’ the season for Christmas music to begin on Detroit Oldies 94.7 HD2.”

Last Friday (Nov. 2), Adams Radio Group “103.9 Sunny FM” WWFW Ft. Wayne made the flip to Christmas.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to hear Christmas music ASAP on our Facebook page earlier this week,” Brand Manager Rob Mackenzie told WPTA-TV. “Add in the snow that fell last night, and there is no time like the present to start spreading the Christmas cheer.” WWFW was part of a flurry of stations making the switch only hours after trick-or-treaters sized up their Halloween stash.

Kemp Broadcasting “106.9 The Q” KVGQ Las Vegas is also wall-to-wall holiday hits. “Santa has moved to 106.9, your new holiday station” website and social posts exclaim. “Tune in now for your favorite holiday songs.”

Kris Kringle took over Summitmedia AC “106.9 Play” WVEZ Louisville Monday morning (Nov. 4). The “Morning Play with Jesse and MJ” invited a listener to help flip the switch to Christmas, a video of which was posted to the station Facebook page.
