Mike Hsu, former WAAF midday host, has landed a new radio gig on Cumulus Media classic hits “The Pike 100 FM” WWFX Worcester. Hsu got the job after an invite from “Bob and Zip,” Bob Rivers and Peter Zipel, the former WAAF morning duo who were filling in at “The Pike.” They asked Hsu to join them on air. Market Manager Bob Goodell heard it and recruited Hsu to join the station.
“It was a real thrill to work with them,” Hsu told the Worcester Magazine. “I was a little intimidated but they were really great and I had a good time. I guess somebody heard something they liked.”
Hsu is on air at “The Pike” 6-8pm, Monday-Friday and 4-7pm Saturdays.
Goodell also spent time at WAAF, serving as Regional Marketing Director. “As sad as I was to see my alma mater and legendary rock station WAAF go Christian music, it gave us the opportunity to hire Mike Hsu, one of WAAF’s best DJ's to our staff at The Pike,” he said.
Hsu added, “Bob Goodell worked really hard to get me on the air and I am very thankful for that. Even if it's just a couple hours a week, I'm still back on the air.”
During his time away from the on air studio, Hsu dabbled in podcasting, including a regular spot on “Breaking the Ice,” hosted by former WAAF alum Josh Dolan and Isaiah. “The podcasts are a lot like a continuation of what we were doing on AAF,” he continued. “It's really brash and juvenile and possibly offensive to many, but that AAF attitude is in there.” Hsu has also hosted a Neil Young-themed podcast.
