If home is where the heart is, marketers are hoping it’s also the centerpiece of seasonal spending. Not only are Home Centers The Home Depot and Lowe’s both among the top 10 national advertisers at radio this week, but two home furnishing retailers, a pair of paint dealers and a home improvement search service are all riding the 100 largest airwaves marketers.
Home Depot is locked into the top slot for a fourth consecutive week, with Lowe’s readily competing at a lofty No. 6. Regional hardware dealer Menard’s is No. 73. Ace Hardware, which had been riding the tally, is absent for the week of June 3-9, according to Media Monitors, which tracks national radio advertising in 85 markets.
In addition, Home Furnishings retailers Ashley HomeStore (No. 48) and IKEA (No. 66) join the week’s home-centered trend, along with paint shop Sherwin Williams (No. 39) and service CertaPro Painters (No. 80). And HomeAdvisor, which matches consumers with home contractors, is No. 85.
It has been nearly a year since radio had Auto Parts dealers in the upper reaches of the national tally of advertisers. Last July, with summer in full swing, AutoZone reached No. 6 as one of eight total within the “Auto Parts, Services & Towing” category amid the top 100. With the official start of summer now one week away, AutoZone again is the leader in the column, at No. 13, with competitors O’Reilly Auto Parts (No. 21), NAPA (No. 24) and Firestone Complete Auto Care (No. 51). Missing in action so far for the season: Michelin, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest Auto Parts and Pep Boys.
For June 3-10, 2019, the top 10 on the Media Monitors’ tally are: The Home Depot at 1, GEICO at 2, iHeartRadio at 3, Indeed at 4, iHeartRadio Music Festival at 5, Lowe’s at 6, Progressive at 7, McDonald’s at 8, Sprint at 9 and Seriously at 10.—Chuck Taylor
