billboard 375

Billboard has released its 2019 Latin Power Players List, which includes executives from Spanish Broadcasting System, Univision, iHeartLatino and SiriusXM.

SBS is represented on the list by Chairman/CEO and President Raúl Alarcón Jr., Executive VP of Programming Jesús Salas and President of SBS Entertainment/VP SBS West Coast Alessandra Alarcón.

“Raúl Alarcón, 63, leads SBS, which in its financial filings for the second quarter of 2019 had the No. 1 and No. 2 Spanish-language stations in both New York and Los Angeles, the nation’s largest radio markets,” Billboard writes. The piece points out ratings success Salas has had in New York and Los Angeles, while Alarcón’s daughter Alessandra has been expanding the company’s concert division, including the annual Calibash event and the summer concert series Megaton.

Univision President of Radio Jesús Lara makes the list as Billboard notes the company’s rebranding of its radio network to Uforia Audio Network, combining its 58 radio stations and its popular Uforia music app. Ismar Santa Cruz, VP/Managing Director of Radio Strategy and Ignacio Meyer, Senior VP Entertainment and Music, are also listed among the Latin Power Players.

Enrique Santos, iHeartLatino Chairman and Chief Creative Officer and syndicated radio host, “plays a behind-the-scenes role to complement his public radio personality,” Billboard writes. Santos comments on the impact of the current political climate. “Latin music is in its best moment despite the current negative, aggressive and racial climate,” Santos says in the piece. “Latin musicians are using their voice, music and social platforms more than ever to call out injustices and to give a voice to the disenfranchised. Latin artists are woke.”

Also making the 2019 Latin Power Players List under the Media and Streaming categories are Bryant Pino, Director of Latin Music Programming, SiriusXM; Marcos Juárez, Head of Latin Music, Pandora; Mia Nygren, Managing Director, Latin America, Spotify; Amaya Mendizabal, Music Curator, Amazon Music; and Cisco Suárez Executive VP Primetime, Realities and Specials, NBCUniversal Telemundo.

The annual list also names prominent members of the Latino community in Music Groups, Labels, Management, Multisector, Live, Publishers and Pros. View the full list HERE.
