iHeartMedia Atlanta moves urban contemporary “96.7 The Beat” WRDG up the dial to the 105.3 WBZY signal and rebrands the station as “The New 105.3 The Beat.” The station retains its on-air lineup, which includes the Premiere Networks-syndicated “The Breakfast Club” morning show featuring DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God.
The Beat’s move to 105.3 follows the relocation of Spanish CHR “Tu Estación Para Super Hitair” from 105.3 to the 105.7 WRDA signal as “Z 105.7,” which displaced modern rock “Alt 105.7” to an HD Radio and online-only outlet. The relocation gives “The Beat” a more desirable 61,000-watt C1 signal, an upgrade from the Class A 2,1000watt signal at 96.7.
In addition to “The Breakfast Club,” the station features Ashley Young (middays), DJ Scream’s “Hoodrich Radio” (afternoons) and Zach Boog in nights. Following the morning show, “105.3 The Beat” is currently commercial-free all day playing hip-hop hits from Da Baby, Drake, Lil Baby, Future and Migos.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to rebuild The Beat from the ground up, and continue to represent the urban music culture with a sound unique to Atlanta,” Program Director Dan Hunt said in a release. “Atlanta’s music lovers will get to listen to the most prolific voices in hip hop radio today, including The Breakfast Club and DJ Scream.”
Plans for the 96.7 signal were not announced.
