Trina and Trick Daddy

Trina and Trick Daddy, stars of TV’s “Love & Hip-Hop: Miami,” will launch a new morning show in 2020 on Cox Media Group urban “99 Jamz” WEDR Miami, replacing the syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show, according to multiple published reports. First reported by the Jasmine Report in June, rapper Katrina Laverne Taylor (better known as Trina, “the Diamond Princess”) confirmed the news in an interview with the Miami Herald.

WEDR is apparently taking a pass on Reach Media’s planned replacement for the Smiley show, when Smiley succeeds Tom Joyner at the end of the year. Joyner is retiring after 25 years in syndicated morning radio. Smiley show member HeadKrack will be the centerpiece of a new morning show that will air on urban contemporary stations currently carrying Smiley. Affiliates were notified of the Smiley replacement show in July.

“We were talking about it for a while and the opportunity came about to us so we just decided to say yeah,” Trina told the Herald after her Oct. 24 performance in Miami Beach. “I’m just excited about it,” she added.

Sources tell Jasmine that Trina and Trick Daddy’s radio show will be included on the upcoming season of “Love & Hip Hop: Miami.” And in the Herald interview, Trina suggested that the radio show could serve as a vehicle to a long-awaited music coloration between the duo. The pair were supposed to be working on an album tentatively titled “TNT.” “I want to see how the show brings us closer and then we’ll have that energy for the studio,” she said. For her part, Trina released her latest album, “The One,” on June 21.
