In February, Entercom Phoenix swapped morning shows between classic hits KOOL-FM (94.5) and country KMLE (107.9), with Maria Knight and Chad Mitchell moving from “94.5 Kool-FM” to KMLE, as Niko Petrou crossed the hall in the opposite direction.
Now, nine months later, Knight and Mitchell are out as job cuts and the elimination of positions continue at the radio group. Knight joined KOOL-FM in 2005 after serving in on-air roles in the market at KZON and KSLX and at KJFX Fresno. Mitchell joined the station in 2016 after doing mornings at iHeartMedia crosstown AC KESZ. He was previously heard in mornings at Alpha Media hot AC WRMF West Palm Beach, iHeartMedia CHR WKQI and Cumulus Media country WDRQ in Detroit.
KMLE now lists “Country Music Mornings” on its programming schedule as Entercom advertises for a new morning on-air personality on its corporate website.
The morning show at country sister “99.5 The Wolf” KWJJ Portland was also let go. Longtime duo Mike Chase and Amy Faust have exited after anchoring AM drive for 18 years over two stints. Chase and Faust’s first tenure in mornings at KWJJ ran from 1999-2012 and they returned to the station two years later. No replacement has been named and a job posting for mornings at KWJJ has not been added to the Entercom website.
Morning man Buck Wise exited hot AC sister “105.1 The Buzz” KRSK in August with no replacement named. Wise was named morning host at the station in October 2018.
The exits of Chase and Faust follows the recent appointment of Scott Roddy to OM/PD of the station, replacing longtime programmer Mike Moore, who was let go in August as his VP/Programming position was eliminated. Moore has since been named PD of Cumulus Media country “Kicks 101.5” WKHX Atlanta.
