...The fallout from the homophobic remarks made by DaBaby continues as the iHeartRadio Music Festival has dropped the rapper from the lineup for the two-day event (Sept. 17-18) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Additionally, Audacy rhythmic CHR “KS 107.5” KQKS Denver has cancelled its “Summer Jam 2021,” which had DaBaby as the headlining act. “In light of various factors, including DaBaby's recent comments, along with our concert partners, we have chosen to cancel this year's Summer Jam,” a statement from the station read. “We look forward to working on Summer Jam lineups for years to come with our love of music and each other. Tickets will be refunded from your point of purchase.” DaBaby was dropped from last weekend’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago and has also been scrapped from the lineup of the Governor’s Ball in New York, Day N Vegas, the Can’t Wait Live benefit show in Philadelphia, Music Midtown in Atlanta and the ACL Fest in Austin. As of now, DaBaby is still on the lineup for the “Summer Jam,” hosted by Mediaco rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” WQHT New York.
...Cox Media Group news/talk WSB-WSBB-FM Atlanta (750/95.5) held the 21st annual “WSB Care-a-Thon,” benefitting the Aflac Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta on July 29-30. The two-day event raised nearly $1.7 million. Over the past 21 years, the “Care-a-Thon” has raised more than $27 million. The amount raised was similar to the 2019 pre-pandemic event, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Last year’s total was $1.5 million. The record total came in 2017 when listeners donated $1.75 million.
...The Alabama Broadcasters Association has postponed its annual conference scheduled for Aug. 13-14 due to “the surge in the rate of infections and hospitalizations” due to COVID-19 in the state. The event has been rescheduled for Jan. 21-22, 2022 in Birmingham. “While we are disappointed to have to make this change, it is in everyone's best interest,” a statement read. “The surge in the rate of infections and hospitalizations has to be addressed. We'll all do our part and put off our gathering for a few more months.”
...The “Zolak & Bertrand” midday show at Beasley Media Group “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM Boston has been broadcasting live from Gillette Stadium for New England Patriots Training Camp. The program has been conducting player interviews and providing the latest news and analysis live from camp. WBZ-FM is the flagship of the Patriots Radio Network.
...Norsan Media debuts a new digital radio station “Azul 105.3” Jacksonville, which airs on the company’s WYKB-HD2, playing romantic Latin music from artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Camila, Chayanne, David Bisbal, Franco de Vita, Laura Pausini and Luis Miguel. “We saw a void in romantic music in the market and decided to move forward with Azul 105.3 FM in HD2 and give people in the area another option for music in Spanish they can enjoy,” owner Norberto Sanchez said in a release.
...The “Before IT Happened” podcast is added to the broadcast lineup of Hype Media Global talk WDJY Atlanta (99.1) and Hype Media digital outlets “WTTA FM” and “Talk10 FM.” “Before IT Happened has been a great success right out of the gate and I am very excited to join the lineups of these radio stations and share the stories of our visionary guests,” host Donna Loughlin said in a release. “Our time slot following ‘Building the Future with Kevin Horek’ is a great one-two punch as we have collaborated over the years and share a passion for innovation.”
