...Good Karma Brands sports “850 ESPN Cleveland” WKNR adds a new one-hour segment, “RBS Next,” which will air from 12-1pm during “The Really Big Show” (9am-1pm). The segment features afternoon co-host Emmett Golden, joining “The Really Big Show” hosts Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer. “I’m looking to bring energy and fun to RBS Next,” Emmett Golden said in a release. “I also want to give the fans a preview of what Je’rod [Cherry] and I will be talking about each afternoon on The Next Level.” Golden and Cherry’s “The Next Level” drops an hour and will now be heard from 3-5pm as “ESPN Cleveland Tonight” adjusts to 5-7pm on the schedule, with all changes effective Monday, March 1.
...Clark Howard will be the recipient of the ‘Andrew Ashwood Award at the 2021 Talk Show Boot Camp. Howard, the Atlanta-based consumer advice talk personality, retired at the end of 2020, after a 33-year career. His program was syndicated to 250 stations by Westwood One. The award is named in honor of Andrew Ashwood, who was the former head of programming at Fox Sports Radio. Each year's recipient is charged with selecting the following year's honoree. “When I was given the privilege of selecting someone who exemplified the positivity that Andrew did for our industry, it took me two seconds to say Clark Howard,” last year's recipient Greg Moceri said in a release. “Having worked and associated with him for 30 years, he was an instant selection on how many ways he has demonstrated that positivity and has helped millions through the years.”
...Jacobs Media and the RAB will host a free webinar Thursday, Feb. 25 at 1pm (ET) recapping items of importance to radio from the recent virtual CES 2021. “What Happened At ‘Virtual’ CES 2021 – And What It Means To Radio” will focus on advances in the connected car, voice, in-home technology and the future of content. ...The 81st Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) conference will be a virtual gathering taking place Tuesday, March 2 through Saturday, March 6, ending with the announcement of the winners of the annual IBS College Radio Awards. Dubbed “IBS@Home,” the conference features Angela Yee of the Premiere Networks-syndicated “The Breakfast Club” as the keynote speaker on Friday, March 5 at 12pm (ET). The IBS is an 81-year-old non-profit, volunteer run organization that supports the students, faculty and staff of college and high school media outlets. ...Mahon Communications talk/sports WFXJ Roanoke (910) is hosting a radiothon to benefit the Roanoke Valley SPCA Tuesday, Feb 23 from 10am-4pm. Listeners are being encouraged to call in and donate to the facility, which is celebrating its 105th anniversary, WFXR-TV reports.
...Intergalactic Royalty Operations Corporation’s “iRoc Space Radio” is now available on iHeartRadio. The station “features a unique brand of content covering space news, music, culture and entertainment,” according to press materials. “Our entire organization is excited about iHeartRadio now becoming an integral part of the iRoc Space Radio identity,” CEO Bruce Furst said.
