The latest Webcast Metrics from Triton Digital show that news/talk and CHR were the most-listened-to formats on smart speakers throughout the month of March. News/talk is the most-listened format accounting for 34% of streamed audio on smart speakers, followed by CHR (12%), country (8%) and sports (6%).
Modern AC saw the largest gain in Average Active Sessions (AAS), with a 16.34% increase (Mon-Fri, 6am-7pm) over February 2018. Total weekday listening (Mon-Fri, 6am-8pm) remains steady at 6 million AAS in March and is just over 5 million AAS for the total week. The peak of weekday streaming listening for March occurred at 2pm, with weekend peaks happening at 1pm – the same findings from the February report.
Detroit is the market that showed the largest increase in AAS, up 4.71% (Mon-Fri, 6am-7pm). The Motor City is followed by Seattle-Tacoma with an increase of 4.25%, Dallas-Ft. Worth (3.63%), Atlanta (3.09%) and Chicago (2.74%).
Pandora and Spotify take the top two positions in the March 2018 Top 20 Rankers with 2,581,787 and 2,488,542 Average Active Sessions, respectively. Among broadcast radio groups, iHeartMedia is ranked first with 368,137 AAS, followed by NPR Member Stations (79,683), Entercom (78,017), Cumulus (65,476) and Beasley Media Group (23,859). The iHeartMedia Network, which comprises all iHeartMedia-owned streams and the streams related to network affiliations, had a March 2018 total of 1,014,380 AAS. Numbers quoted are from Mon-Fri, 6am-8pm.
