NRG Media adjusts classic rock “101.9 The Keg” KOOO Omaha to adult hits and adds Matt Tompkins for mornings. Jay Michaels, who was named PD of sister stations hot AC “Sweet 98.5” KQKQ-FM and rhythmic CHR “Power 106.9” KOPW in October 2019, adds the PD title at KOOO. Tompkins, meanwhile, segues to his new role at the re-tapped “Keg” from co-hosting mornings at “Sweet 98.5.”
“I am beyond excited to have Jay leading the charge from the programming and music side, while veteran on-air talent Matt Tompkins will kick-off the day with a fun, new and entertaining morning show on the new 101.9 The Keg,” Market Manager Mark Shecterle said in a news release.
The station, and “Matt in the Morning,” debuted Monday, Jan 13. The on-air lineup also includes Crash Davis (10am-3pm) and Mike Neville (3pm-7pm).
A recent quarter hour featured Erasure “Chains of Love,” REO Speedwagon “Take It On The Run,” Phil Collins “In The Air Tonight,” Pat Benatar “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Blind Melon “No Rain” and Duran Duran “Hungry Like The Wolf.”
“This is a huge opportunity for NRG Media to own the adult listener in Omaha,” Michaels added. “Who doesn’t like hearing ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ into ‘Bette Davis Eyes’ and then not knowing what’s going to be played next.”
In Nielsen’s November 2019 survey, the classic rock formatted “Keg” posted a 2.4 share (12+).
