Entercom CHR “97.1 Amp” KAMP Los Angeles fills its morning vacancy with “The Morning Mess,” featuring Joey Boy, Aneesh Ratan, Jeana Shepard and Karla Hernandez. The show originates at sister rhythmic CHR “Live 101.5” KALV-FM Phoenix and will produce a local product for the L.A. market.
“Joey Boy and The Morning Mess are a true reflection of Southern California,” Regional President Jeff Federman said in a release. “They are diverse, dynamic, socially responsible and completely transparent.”
Mornings have been in transition at “97.1 Amp” since Carson Daly’s exit three years ago. Edgar “Shoboy” Sotelo, Brian Moote and Chelsea Briggs were named as Daly’s successor and began their run in February 2018. In October 2019, Chris Booker moved from afternoons to mornings, replacing Moote and Sotello. Booker was part of Entercom’s COVID-19-related cuts in April.
Joey Boy, also known as ‘Nachoo,’ joined Entercom in 2013 as an original co-host for “The Morning Mess” on “Live 101.5,” and has served in various roles in Phoenix radio since 2002. His popular segment “Nachoo’s Revenge,” featuring his alter ego prank calling unsuspecting listeners, will make its way to Los Angeles with the addition of the show to mornings.
Ratan joined as co-host in 2015, while Shepard (The Desert Mama), who was added in January 2019, serves as the voice of reason. Hernandez joined Entercom Phoenix as a promotions assistant in 2018 and was also added as a cast member in January 2019.
