The podcast hosting site Podbean is branching out into advertising. The company has unveiled PodAds, its ad-insertion tool that aims to differentiate itself by charging a flat service fee for use of the ad management service rather than taking a cut of ad revenue, the model used by most other hosting platforms. Podbean says it will only charge a flat $1 CPM rate for the use of the service.

The tool allows podcasters to simply set the start and end date for their ad campaigns, select ad placements—including which podcasts, episodes, slots and timestamps for ads to run—and upload their ads. PodAds can also be used to run geo-targeted ads.

In an announcement, the company says PodAds is available to Podbean Unlimited Plus and Business plan users immediately. But Podbean plans to expand services into more podcasts in the future.

Podbean says it currently has 200,000 podcasts on its standalone listening app from providers including iHeartRadio, NPR, and most of the other big players. The Podbean app has more than one million installs, with more than 300,000 active monthly users according to the company.
