Veteran programmer Jimmy Steal is named VP of brand and content at Hubbard hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX Chicago. Steal leaves “Power 106” KPWR Los Angeles after nearly 20 years, first with Emmis and for the past year-and-a-half serving as VP/programming for Meruelo Media, where he oversaw KPWR and classic hip-hop sister KDAY (93.5).
“Jimmy is a tested and proven winner in one of the most competitive markets in the country,” VP/market manager Jeff England said in a release. “His talent and leadership will further enhance our market leading performance at 101.9 The Mix, home of the ‘Eric in the Morning Show.’”
Steal stayed on with Meruelo after the company purchased KPWR from Emmis Communications in 2017 for $82.75 million. His previous 18 years with Emmis included positions as “Power 106” PD, National Digital Program Director and VP of Programming. The industry veteran previously held the Director of Programming and Operations title for Clear Channel Dallas and occupied programming positions at WKRQ Cincinnati and WXXL Orlando.
“After my extended successful run at Power 106 LA I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of VP of Brand and Content for WTMX in Chicago,” Steal said. “I would like to thank Meruelo Media COO Otto Padron and my entire Power 106/KDAY team for the many years of amazing record-breaking radio. I’m so looking forward to being at Hubbard Radio, working in their biggest market, for Jeff England, [president/COO] Drew Horowitz, [senior VP/programming] Greg Strassell, mega-star Eric Ferguson and the entire WTMX staff.”
WTMX was in need of a day-to-day programmer since the November exit of longtime PD Mary Ellen Kachinske.
