The Arizona Coyotes are reportedly changing radio flagships. The NHL team will leave Bonneville “Arizona Sports 98.7” KMVP-FM Phoenix for crosstown iHeartMedia “Fox Sports 910” KGME, according to a report in The Athletic.
KMVP-FM has an overstuffed play-by-play schedule as the flagship of the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, the NBA's Phoenix Suns, the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, Arizona State University football and basketball – in addition to the Coyotes. It’s long been believed the Coyotes weren’t entirely happy with their arrangement with Bonneville. When games conflicted with Diamondbacks or Suns broadcasts, Coyotes play-by-play was shifted to another station, usually “ESPN 620 AM” KTAR.
“There will be no conflict on Fox Sports 910, and the Coyotes likely will be a bigger part of the conversation on the station’s two locally produced shows: ‘The Freaks with Kenny & Crash’ and ‘The Drive With Jody Oehler,’” The Athletic reports.
The Coyotes were recently acquired by billionaire Alex Meruelo, founder of California-based Meruelo Group, whose holdings include radio and TV group Meruelo Media. A joint announcement by the team and iHeartMedia could come as early as Tuesday.
