Along with being a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist, Joe Walsh has been known to crack the mic as a radio host during his spare time. With live music on hold, the colorful character will host a weekly one-hour Saturday evening program, “The Joe Walsh Old-Fashioned Rock n’ Roll Radio Show,” beginning Thursday, May 21 at 6pm on California State University-Northridge adult alternative KCSN/KSBR Los Angeles.
General Manager Patrick Osburn says the Eagles and James Gang vet “will have free reign to essentially take over the programming duties. His playlist and blend of stories and anecdotes should make for an engaging 60 minutes.”
Walsh, who has been homebound like the rest of us during the pandemic, reached out to the station and offered to host the show. He also realizes that the health crisis is making it difficult for “88.5-FM” and other public radio outlets across the country to raise funds and secure underwriting.
“This public radio station serves the community I live in and is funded by listeners,” Walsh said in a release. “I like that men with ties don’t decide what I listen to. My show will be a mixture of music I love, music I think people will want to hear and stories behind some of these songs that I’m pretty sure no one knows about. Hopefully, the show will generate some more listeners and support for the station, and we will have a lot of fun in the process.”
Walsh is a longtime listener and supporter of the station. “It’s flattering to have rock legends listening and financially supporting the station,” Osburn added. “Being entertainment royalty and one of the many local fixtures of the SoCal/Hollywood community, we anticipate Joe’s rolodex of potential guests runs deep, so we feel great about giving him the keys to the car.”
Walsh participates in station fund drives when he is available and is a friend of legendary morning man Nic Harcourt.
“Joe has been a longtime contributor and friend of the radio station, but now that he has his own show, he’s truly part of the 88.5-FM family,” Program Director Marc “Mookie” Kaczor remarked. “I can’t wait to hear his stories. Joe Walsh is rock royalty.”
Walsh also brings some past radio experience to his new gig, having hosted a show on former classic rock “K-Rock” WXRK New York and serving as a guest DJ in the past on Los Angeles heritage rock outlet KLOS.
