It’s official: Rush Limbaugh has renewed his syndication deal with iHeartMedia’s Premiere Networks. Specific terms were not announced, but the long-term, multi-platform agreement will keep the talk radio kingpin airing across the U.S. well into the new decade.
“The Rush Limbaugh Show” broadcasts weekdays from noon-3pm Eastern on more than 650 affiliates reaching millions of listeners. Premiere says ad revenue for show continues to grow, with 2020 marking a record-breaking upfront for the program.
Widely credited with reviving AM radio, Limbaugh and his partners launched the show Aug. 1, 1988 with 56 radio stations, and in just a few months, an additional 100 affiliates were added, paving the way for the expansion of the talk radio format. “The Rush Limbaugh Show” marked its 31st year in national syndication in August 2019. Since then it has expanded to include its own mobile app, the subscription-based online platform Rush 24/7 and The Limbaugh Letter, a monthly print and digital magazine now in its 27th year. Premiere says these product extensions “continue to reach record levels.”
“Growing up, dreaming of and pondering success, I never actually envisioned it to the degree I have experienced it,” Limbaugh said in the announcement. “And it would not have happened without a huge audience of Americans, people who make the country work; hundreds of great radio stations who took a great risk 31 years ago; and the wonderful people at iHeartMedia, who know radio almost as well as I do. Now, four more years! There is nothing I would rather do.”
The news was first reported by CNN Business on Sunday, after President Trump broke the news during a rally in Miami on Friday.
“There’s no one quite like Rush,” added Rich Bressler, President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of iHeartMedia. “His ability to entertain, engage and inform millions of listeners, along with his unwavering commitment to radio, has set a standard for broadcast excellence for more than 30 years. We couldn’t be happier to extend our partnership and look forward to many years of continued growth and success.”
