Chicago-based conservative talker Dan Proft will fill the 9pm-midnight opening on the Salem Radio Network vacated by Joe Walsh when he decided to run for President. Proft will pull double duty for Salem, continuing to co-host mornings on “AM 560 The Answer” WIND Chicago with Amy Jacobson, while adding national night duties for the network, starting Jan. 2, 2020.
“Dan Proft is incredibly intelligent, insightful, and full of knowledge,” SRN Senior VP of Spoken Word Phil Boyce said in a news release. “We are delighted to have a host of his quality available to take over the night slot on the lineup. I think stations will love having his wit and humor every night.”
Salem cancelled Walsh’s show Sept. 26 after the former Congressman turned radio talk show host confirmed he is looking to take on President Trump for the Republican nomination for the party’s 2020 candidate for president. Walsh also anchored a local show on WIND that aired 5-7pm.
Like the host he is replacing, Proft has also shown political aspirations. Proft is a former Republican candidate for Illinois governor and is well known in Chicago and Illinois Republican circles. He also heads Liberty Principles, a political action committee. Before joining Salem in 2015 as co-host of the “Dan And Amy Show,” Proft spent four years co-hosting mornings on Cumulus Media crosstown talker WLS (890). A graduate of Northwestern University, Proft received his law degree from Loyola University’s School of Law.
