Triton Digital is diving deeper into podcasting as it announces it has acquired Omny Studio, the Australian-based podcast software and services company. Triton has already been working with Omny since 2017, integrating its audio publishing products and reselling them to Triton clients. “Omny Studio has been an exceptional partner that shares our passion for enabling traditional broadcasters and pureplay podcasters to grow their audience and revenue,” said Neal Schore, CEO of Triton Digital. Omny Studio is used by such big radio groups as Entercom and Cumulus Media in the U.S., Corus Entertainment in Canada, and digital-only operations like Mashable.
Triton says the addition of Omny Studio’s content management system and hosting capabilities into Triton’s portfolio of streaming, advertising, and measurement technologies allows it to offer audio publishers a “one-stop-shop” suite of products, designed to increase reach and revenue while simultaneously streamlining workflows. “We are proud to welcome Omny to the Triton family, and look forward to combining our talent and technology to expand the solution globally and continue to innovate around podcast data and analytics,” Schore said in the announcement.
Financial terms of the deal, which closed Wednesday, weren’t released. Triton Digital is a wholly owned subsidiary of The E.W. Scripps Company, which sold its radio division last year in favor of expanding its television holdings and digital audio business.
As a result of this acquisition, Triton Digital has acquired the technology, assets, and team of the Melbourne-based company. Triton says the entire Omny Studio team, including co-founders Andrew Armstrong and Long Zheng, has agreed to join Triton Digital. Armstrong called it the “next phase” of their “journey ahead” with Triton Digital. Zheng said it doesn’t change their commitment to creating the best possible creation, publishing, monetization and analytics tools for podcast producers.
Omny Studio was founded in 2012 with a focus on text-to-speech technology (branded as SoundGecko) and Omny personalized radio. In 2015 it launched the Omny Studio platform.
“Triton Digital has been driving the growth and innovation of the digital audio industry for the last 13 years, and we are excited to be joining forces to further expand our global footprint and the adoption of our unequaled technology around the world,” Sharon Taylor, CEO of Omny Studio, said in a statement. “We share a passion and a mission to provide publishers with the most comprehensive technology in the market, and look forward to working as part of the Triton family to drive the global audio industry forward.”
