Like a lot of regional podcast events, the Wisconsin Podcast Festival will be a mix of how-to for would-be podcasters and a celebration of on-demand audio. But Allison Phillips, founder of The Wisconsin Podcast Association, which is putting on the event, has made a move other festivals haven’t. She’s teaming up with local radio to help promote the festival—as well as the shows that hail from the region.
Phillips has partnered with iHeartMedia’s six-station cluster in Milwaukee to promote their one-day conference. The stations are also behind the “iHeart Your Podcast” contest that will award the winner website promotion from all six stations in the cluster. The radio stations will also play a role in the Wisconsin Podcast Festival’s Choice Awards with country “FM 106.1” WMIL-FM air personality Shanna Quinn hosting the honors. In addition to her on-air work, Quinn also hosts the Women Crushing It Wednesday podcast on iHeartRadio.
“It only made sense to partner with iHeartMedia Milwaukee for the Wisconsin Podcast Festival,” said Phillips. “We can’t wait to bring Wisconsin’s podcasters and aspiring podcasters together for a weekend of learning and sharing.”
The Wisconsin Podcast Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 7 and it’s the first of its kind event in Milwaukee. The festival will feature live podcast recordings and several iHeart personalities such as classic hits “95.7 Big FM” WRIT-FM midday host Eric Paulsen, who will be on hand to give advice to podcasters about how to produce a show. He produces the EricCast podcast. Another radio host and podcaster, hot AC WXLC Chicago (102.3) morning personality Wes McKane, who co-hosts the DudeFoods podcast, will also host a panel on how podcasters can distribute and market their show.
“iHeartMedia is the No. 1 commercial podcaster so it was a no-brainer to go all in,” said Kerry Wolfe, Senior VP of Programming for iHeartMedia Milwaukee. “Podcasting is a natural extension of radio and we look forward to being a partner this year and hosting this upbeat contest for our listeners.”
