Philadelphia radio veteran Jerry Stevens passed away Friday, Jan. 10 at the age of 85.
Stevens was a jock on the former WIBG Philadelphia from 1960-1967. He also served as the first Program Director of WMMR Philadelphia from 1970-1977 and returned for a second stint programming the station after launching the “disco era” on WCAU.
“While Jerry did for a time spent time on the air in Boston, New York and Minneapolis, it was Philadelphia where he was most at home,” Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia wrote in a post. “In the mid-eighties, he was back on the air in Philadelphia at WPEN when they were the ‘Station of the Stars’ doing an adult standard format.”
