According to a recent Reuters report, 57% of the Mexican population listened to podcasts in the last month. With that sort of opportunity, Acast is expanding into the market. To lead the effort Acast has hired Sergio Domínguez as Managing Director of outreach into the country, with a new office in Mexico City. He most recently was Corporate Sales Director for the magazine Publimetro. Domínguez will work closely with Brian Danzis, Acast’s recently appointed Managing Director of Americas.
“Mexico is a fresh and dynamic market that is starting to show a significant interest in podcasts,” Domínguez said. “At Acast, our unique ability to address every need for both independent podcasters and publishers — including hosting, distribution, marketing, measurement and monetization — paired with our rich experience and love of audio, means we’re able to bring innovative and tailored solutions for podcasters, advertisers and listeners — the likes of which have never been available before in Mexico.”
“It’s been an exciting experience to start a podcast from scratch in a new market like Mexico,” said Oscar Escárzaga, host of Señales Podcast. “Being part of Acast has put us on the map, giving us the possibility to improve even further and to offer more and better content to our ever-growing community.”
His podcasting partner, Pepe Pérez, added, “We’re just two guys talking about subjects we like. Acast is now giving us the opportunity to make a living from it. A dedicated team of experts in the advertisement industry is making a world of difference to us.”
The PwC Global Entertainment and Media Outlook projects there will be 31.5 million podcast listeners in Mexico by 2022.
