The serial radio drama We’re Alive: Lockdown wrapped in October 2016 with 50 million downloads. During the past three years the show has continued to amass listeners, despite having no new episodes, with the latest count at more than 160 million downloads to date. Fans of the show are at long last getting a fresh batch of shows from producer Kc Wayland. We’re Alive: Goldrush is the follow-up series that has just launched its ten-episode run.
In the new season, the narrative podcast features four post- apocalyptic soldiers as they stumble across clues to a hidden gold heist stash. Since gold retains value even after the apocalypse, they plot to track down the prize for themselves. It’s described as a “spaghetti-western tale of humor, horror and heartbreak” that taps into the theater of the mind that audio formats bring.
The new series features guest-star appearances from actor Danny Trejo, actor Christy Carlson Romano—who’s also the host of PodcastOne’s Off the Vine—and former reality TV cast member Kaitlyn Bristowe, who appeared on ABC-TV’s “The Bachelorette.”
The show had previously been self-released. “Working with PodcastOne, we have been able to put together an audio production that will set a new standard in audio entertainment,” said Wayland, CEO of Wayland Productions. “The freedom and liberties of working with PodcastOne in the audio space has allowed us to reach new heights and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the medium and fictional podcasts.”
In a statement, PodcastOne Founder and Executive Chairman Norm Pattiz called We’re Alive: Goldrush a “strong” entry into the scripted podcast category for the company. The company also created a promotional video, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses into how the podcast was produced. Watch it HERE.
