In an audio interview with Variety, Pandora Senior VP of Advertising Innovation at Pandora Lizzie Widhelm discussed why podcasts are seeing a marked “surge” in listeners. “What’s most exciting is that so many advertisers are leaning into audio in general, with new content that is getting listeners excited,” she told the magazine’s Todd Spangler during the Variety Studio at Cannes presented by Inscape & iSpot.tv.

“And of course, there is a wave of podcasts right now that everyone is talking about,” Widhelm added. Asked by Spangler why audio is so hot now, she quipped, “Why is everyone excited about talk when it's 100 years old? It’s because you can now access these great stories and storytellers where you want, effortlessly.”
