In the midst of a series of executive exits at Spotify, the streaming audio service has recruited Lee Brown as its new VP of Global Sales. Brown, who joins the company from BuzzFeed, where he served as Chief Revenue Officer, replaces Brian Benedik who, in June, announced plans to leave the company this fall.
Brown’s hire was first reported by Ad Age, who says BuzzFeed has yet to announce his successor. Benedik’s departure is one of many that have rocked the C-Suite at Spotify. Earlier in September Global Head of Music Nick Holmstén stepped down and moved into an advisory role for the company. Global Head of Curation Strategy Mike Briggane exited the company in July, following the exits of Chief Economist Will Page, Head of Partnerships for Content and Creator Shane Tobin, Global Head of Publishing Adam Parness and VP/Head of Marketplace and Content and VP/Global Head of Communications and Public Policy Jonathan Prince, who all left the streaming service within the last year.
Benedik joined the streaming service six years ago after a lengthy career in broadcast radio sales. He arrived at Spotify in 2013, after a second tour of duty at Katz Media Group, where he rose to President of the rep firm’s Katz360 division. Benedik’s pre-Spotify career included roles as President of Christal Radio, General Sales Manager at CHR “Z100” WHTZ New York and Regional VP for Clear Channel Radio Sales.
