The comedy duo of Kid Fury and Crissle are translating their podcast The Read into a recording deal. Raedio has signed the duo to develop a comedy album similar to what they have been producing on their podcast for the past eight years. Raedio said that the album will pair original commentary from the duo on historic pop culture moments alongside original music.
The Read describes itself as a show that throws shade, breaks down the latest in pop culture and revels in all things Beyonce. That mix has attracted more than 150 million downloads to date across 60 countries.
"I have been a fan of Crissle and Kid Fury for almost a decade now and The Read has been my weekly comfort food," said Issa Rae, founder of Raedio. "I can't wait for everyone to experience their brilliant comedic commentary in such a specially-curated, timeless format."
The album is set to be released this summer. It will be executive produced by Kid Fury and Crissle, Rae, label president Benoni Tagoe, and talent manager Alexandra Rago.
"A comedy album is new territory for us, but Raedio has been instrumental in helping us develop the vision for this project and collaborating with them has been exciting and such a joy,” said Kid Fury and Crissle in a joint statement. “We're excited to break new ground and give our fans new ways to tune in and engage with us,” they said.
The Read has previously taken its comedy act on the road with live appearances in the U.S., Canada and Europe with more than 75,000 tickets sold to date.
