Beasley Media Group’s WRIF (101.1) has been rocking Detroit since 1971 and that 48-year history has made it one of the long-running rock stations in the U.S. With that history and connection to the genre, WRIF is launching a new podcast that will celebrate the station. The History of WRIF Podcast will feature current and past air personalities reflecting on their memories of the station and the music that it played.
The History of WRIF Podcast is hosted by former station personality Mike Staff, who worked at the station for 14 years, before leaving to start his own production company. The podcast is produced by current WRIF personality Steve Black.
“With WRIF’s long history of rockin’ Detroit and the countless memories that go along with that, I am thrilled we were able to provide a platform to share these stories with our listeners,” said WRIF Program Director Mark Pennington in an announcement. “Mike and Steve both share a strong connection with the station and its personalities, so they were a natural fit to take the lead on this project”
The first episode will feature Detroit radio legend Arthur Penhallow. Known as “Arthur P,” Penhallow was part of the team that launched WRIF in 1971 and he spent several decades on the air at WRIF. During that time, he received many honors, including recognition from The Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame and a role in the movie “The Upside of Anger,” which featured WRIF as a setting for the film. The podcast will feature Penhallow sharing some of the many storied moments that took place during his time on the air.
The History Of WRIF podcast will be released on a monthly basis with future episodes featuring other past and present station personalities.
