Lots of podcasters have added video elements to their shows, but a new podcast is heading in the other direction. Red Table Talk is a Facebook Watch Original online video series that has become a podcast for its third season in a partnership between Westbook Audio and the iHeartPodcast Network. The podcast is hosted by actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, and her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris.
“The whole idea of the red table is a safe place where we can let down our guard,” Pinkett-Smith said of the Red Table Talk podcast. The show brings together three generations of women to tackle the most provocative topics of today, from race and sexuality to infidelity and addiction featuring a mix of expert interviews and some of their friends. Recent shows have included topics like “How Your Relationship Can Survive Quarantine,” which featured renowned intimacy expert Michaela Boehm, who is also a personal counselor to Pinkett-Smith and her husband, actor Will Smith. On another episode titled “How Gun Violence Affects Women,” the trio had a one-on-one conversation with Lauren London, longtime partner of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, to talk about the traumas of gun violence and coping with grief and loss. And on “Colorism” the focus is on a rarely talked about form of discrimination that continues to divide the Black community, with Pinkett-Smith’s lifelong friend Mia and her daughter Madison revealing how they’ve been targets of bias themselves.
