Podcasts becoming television shows isn’t new. But in a twist, the Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast is being tapped for content as comedian and host Duncan Trussell teams up with Pendleton Ward to create an animated series on Netflix. Ward previously created the “Adventure Time” animated series. The pair’s new show is called “The Midnight Gospel” and the adult-targeted animation will leverage portions of the Family Hour podcast episodes. An initial eight-episode run is planned for “Adventure Time,” which is being produced by Titmouse Animation. It is slated to debut in 2020.
Nextflix says the new animated series will star Clancy as its lead character, who it describes as a “space caster with a malfunctioning multiverse simulator [who] leaves the comfort of his home to interview beings living in dying worlds.”
Doing a cartoon isn’t new for Trussell who previously lent his voice to shows like Cartoon Network’s “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and HBO’s “Animals.” His podcast, however, is more adult-focused. The weekly show describes itself as a “weekly salon-style super show” that features Trussell and guests exploring “the outer reaches of the multiverse.”
