Actors and filmmakers Mark and Jay Duplass are bringing their brother show to podcasting. Duplass Brothers Productions has signed a development deal with Spotify to create exclusive original programming that will feature both scripted and unscripted podcast series. Mark and Jay Duplass have already been the producing partners behind movies and TV shows like HBO’s “Room 104,” Netflix’s “Wild Wild Country,” and HBO’s “Togetherness.”

“We are incredibly excited to partner with Spotify for our first foray into podcasting,” said Mark and Jay Duplass in a joint statement. “Also terrified because making a truly engaging narrative podcast seems really, really difficult. Was this a mistake? Maybe we should pull out of this deal before they announce?”

Spotify said that even though the series will be exclusive to users of its app, the podcasts that Duplass Brothers Productions creates will be available for both subscribers and listeners of its free, advertising-supported products.

"As Spotify continues to partner with unique and iconic storytellers, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Mark and Jay Duplass,” said Liz Gateley, Head of Network Programming at Spotify. “They are so creatively versatile that we're confident they'll figure this podcasting thing out.”

Spotify points out it is not the first time Duplass Brothers Productions has made the leap to a new medium, having initially gained acclaim for their work in film before moving into TV with the two brothers having been joined by producer Mel Eslyn. It also notes both brothers have also been spotted often in front of the camera. Mark is currently a series regular on the Apple series “The Morning Show,” and Jay starred in all four seasons of Amazon’s series “Transparent,” as well as the series finale movie.

The Duplass Brothers Productions partnership adds to Spotify’s growing slate of diversified content, which include production deals with: Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, The Joe Rogan Experience, An Oral History of The Office, DC Comics, and Archie Comics, among others.
