Gimlet Media is trying something a little different for its new podcast The Two Princes. It’s described as a “modern retelling of a classic fairytale” that “celebrates the joys joys and pitfalls of teenage romance, growing up, and facing your fears.” The Two Princes is a scripted podcast targeting LGBT audiences.
The show features actors Noah Galvin and Ari’el Stachel playing a pair of princes who start as rivals but end up discovering that the only thing more difficult than saving their kingdoms from destruction is following their hearts. The cast also includes Christine Baranski, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Matthew Rhys and Samira Wiley. The Two Princes was written by Kevin Christopher Snipes and directed by Mimi O’Donnell, who is Gimlet’s executive producer for scripted fiction.
The seven-episode series debuts June 4 on Spotify, which bought Gimlet earlier this year. But The Two Princes won’t be a Spotify exclusive. Gimlet says the podcast will be distributed on other platforms as well.
