...Adonde Media and PRX’s Radiotopia have announced that they have teamed up with Song Explorer host Hrishikesh Hirway to create a spin-off called Canción Exploder that will features songs, stories, and interviews entirely in Spanish. Adonde Media CEO Martina Castro told the IAB Podcast Upfront that the new show will be released in early 2022 and that she will be the host of the series. Hirway will serve as an executive producer. Song Explorer was earlier developed into a TV series for Netflix.

... Acast used its presentation during the IAB Podcast Upfront to announce that it had signed the true crime series Small Town Dicks to join its lineup. The true crime podcast hosted by real-life twin detectives Dan and Dave – who remain anonymous – and actress Yeardley Smith, best known as the voice of Lisa Simpson, has had more than 25 million downloads to date. When season nine debuts Sept. 17, Acast will handle distribution and ad sales for the show. “Small Town Dicks could not be in better hands,” said Smith.

...Osiris Media, the studio focused mainly on podcast stories with a link to music, showed off its previously-announced plans to work with Audacy on a new podcast focused on the Seattle grunge music scene. The forthcoming show is called Breaking Waves Seattle. It will offer an oral history of the emergence and growth of grunge and alternative music in the city in the 80s and 90s. Audacy owns rock KISW (99.9) and alternative “107.7 The End” KNDD in Seattle and the podcast series will leverage content from both stations.

...LAist Studios plans to release a podcast about the California wildfires called The Big Burn. The series will be hosted by Jacob Margolis who previously hosted The Big One series about the potential for a massive earthquake to strike Southern California. LAist Studios is also planning new shows about K-Pop and the late radio host Oscar Gomez.
