Journalist Joe Nocera, best known in podcast circles for his work on the series The Shrink Next Door, is partnering with a just-launched podcast incubator Blanchard House. Founded by Boston-based entrepreneur Kimberly Jung, and journalists from several U.K. outlets, the team says it will be creating “journalism-rich” series for the U.S. market. To achieve that, Blanchard House has raised $1 million in seed funding.
Nocera has signed on to host several of Blanchard House’s developing shows. “As I’ve gotten to know the Blanchard House crew over the past six months, I’ve been really impressed. They know how to find compelling stories, and they know how to tell them,” he said. “ Writing and reporting The Shrink Next Door was a memorable experience for me, and it’s been wonderful to see its trajectory from podcast to screen. I’m excited to do it again with another captivating story I’m cooking up with Blanchard House.”
Blanchard House currently has six series in production as commissions and co-productions in the genres of true crime, family saga, murder mysteries, and heroic tales. They’ll be taking listeners to the wilds of Siberia on the trail of a missing girl, exploring the intrigue of Bulgarian royalty during the Nazi era, inside planes hijacked in the name of free love, and under the covers of the elusive female orgasm.
“What we are doing at Blanchard House is bold: we’ve taken the best talent in the U.K., set them upon a sea of untold or forgotten stories, and are now churning out cinematic narrative-style podcasts destined for the big screen, with our sights set on becoming a premier destination for original and exceptional IP,” said Jung.
Variety reports Blanchard House has made several hires, including Head of Rights James Peake, Managing Producer/VP of Rights Duncan Barber, Senior Narrative Podcast Producer Poppy Damon, Senior Narrative Podcast Producer Philly Beaumont, Senior Audio Producer Seren Jones, and host Beck Milligan.
“These are exciting times for British talent targeting the American market,” said Ryan Dilley, Managing Producer and Consultant at Pushkin. “With the fine caliber of their journalism and storytelling, the Blanchard House team will undoubtedly be amongst the best and most interesting new contenders in the industry.”
