Kim Kardashian West may be known as a reality television star, but she has been studying to become a lawyer and that has sparked an interest in criminal justice reform. That serious side of a woman that plenty of Americans already have strong feelings about will be on full display on a new podcast she will host for Spotify.
The Wall Street Journal reports the still-untitled podcast will be produced by Kardashian West, TV producer Lori Rothschild Ansaldi, and Spotify’s Parcast studio.Kardashian West and Rothschild Ansaldi are said to also be the hosts of the podcast, which will only be available on Spotify.
The series will focus on Kevin Keith, who was convicted of a triple homicide in Ohio in 1994. Keith has said he wasn’t the triggerman, but he has lost several appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court has refused to hear his most recent appeal. But his death sentence was commuted a decade ago after new evidence raised doubts about his guilt. No launch date for the podcast has been announced.
Spotify didn’t release any specifics of its deal with Kardashian West, but it is unlikely that it’s as high-paying as the $100 million deal the Journal said is being paid to Joe Rogan to make his popular podcast an exclusive to the streaming service. The latest deal does, however, suggest that Spotify has moved on from buying companies — it earlier bought Gimlet Media, Parcast, The Ringer and Anchor — and it is increasingly focused on specific shows and talent. Spotify also has a multiyear deal with former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to produce podcasts.
