The podcast publisher and advertising company Megaphone is expanding its platform to Europe where it aims to seize the opportunity as a growing number of radio networks and news organizations expand into podcasting. The company points to data showing monthly podcast listenership rates in Europe are growing quickly, ranging from a low of 21% in the U.K. to a high of 37% in Ireland and 39% in Spain. That compared to a growth of 35% in the U.S.

“European podcasting is exploding with creative energy,” said CEO Brendan Monaghan. “We want to help turn that energy into successful and sustainable businesses across Europe.”

Megaphone’s European platform sales will be led from Megaphone’s new office in Germany. It will be headed by Joseph Sasso, who has been named Director of European Business Development. Sasso has more than a decade of experience in European sales.

In the U.S. market Megaphone has lined up a list of big podcasters as its clients, including iHeartMedia, Westwood One, Cadence13, Vox Media, the Wall Street Journal, CNBC and Pushkin Industries. “The founders of Megaphone have been working in podcasting since 2005,” said Chief Revenue Officer Matt Turck. “We can help podcasters anticipate and avoid the challenges of podcasting at scale because we’ve faced all of those challengers before.”
