The San Diego Union-Tribune is one of a growing number of newspapers putting podcasts on the doorsteps of listeners each day. The paper already has the weekday afternoon news roundup podcast San Diego News Fix. Now it’s beefing up its roster of podcasts with a new weekly show called Name Drop San Diego. The paper says the podcast celebrates the people who have shaped San Diego and been shaped by it.

The Union-Tribune’s Abby Hamblin and Kristy Totten will host the conversations with people who live in San Diego or who left to influence other places worldwide. Among those lined up are Jon Foreman, the lead singer of Switchfoot; Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina in space; and Ralph Rubio, founder of SoCal’s Rubio’s Coastal Grill.

The first episode will be released May 5, with new episodes published each Tuesday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune also publishes the weekly podcast The Conversation featuring local newsmakers, the San Diego Padres-focused Hot Lava sports podcast, and the Aztecs Hoopla podcast about San Diego State University basketball.
