Eighties nostalgia has given way to the nineties, as evidenced by the near-continuous airing of “Friends” episodes on television. Mark-Paul Gosselaar sees an opening to bring new attention to another sitcom from the decade. Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris on the show “Saved By The Bell” is teaming up with comedy writer Dashiell Driscoll for a re-watch of series.
The premise of the podcast that they have titled Zack to the Future is Gosselaar has not watched an entire episode of “Saved by the Bell: since he taped his final scene and walked off the set in 1993. In the podcast the duo revisits the show and recaps the most epic moments at the fictional Bayside High for the audience to relive the incredible series.
“For years I have been asked by the dedicated fans of ‘Saved by the Bell’ to revisit the show,” said Gosselaar. I couldn’t wrap my head around an idea that would keep the audience entertained and celebrate the beloved series we created over 30 years ago, mostly because I can't remember a thing about making it, and I am thrilled to say I have found the answer.”
Driscoll describes himself as a “Saved By The Bell” superfan and will guide Gosselaar on his journey of watching the show he starred in for the very first time. "I've been told there are other TV shows besides ‘Saved by the Bell,’ and someday I hope to watch one of them—they sound fantastic,” he joked.
Driscoll is currently writing for the series reboot. He also wrote the Funny or Die series “Zack Morris is Trash.” Meanwhile Gosselaar currently stars in the sitcom “Mixed-ish” on ABC-TV.
Zack to the Future launches July 29. New episodes will be available on Wednesdays.
