Just a month after its debut, podcast “Adulting” from WNYC Studios has been named one of the best new podcasts of 2019 by a host of publications, including Vulture, Time, The AV Club, Marie Claire and O Magazine, while smacking down within the Top 10 of the Apple Podcasts' comedy charts.

With the tag line, “Because being an adult doesn’t come with instructions,” the program’s descriptor reads: “Did you ever think being an adult would be this hard? Neither did hosts Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos. That’s why they’re talking it out with some of the funniest, most creative adults around. Plus, they answer the questions that haunt us all, like, ‘What is an acceptable amount of money to spend on pillows?’ and ‘Is it okay that I eat cereal three times a day?’”

Since its May 21 launch, guests have included comedians Jim Gaffigan, Wyatt Cenac, Danielle Brooks, Phoebe Robinson and Michael Ian Black. It is also novel in that the podcast is taped in front of a live audience. Buteau previously hosted WNYC Studios’ “Late Night Whenever,” while Carlos is on hand to address “everything from raising kids, splitting the check at dinner, doing taxes, asking for a promotion, breaking up with a friend, navigating relationships and paying the mortgage,” according to a WNYC Studios “About” description. Episodes will be released weekly through Sept. 3.

Among kudos, The AVE Club writes: “Explore the difficulties of growing up while laughing your ass off along the way.” Vulture says: “Grab your baby or your BFF and hit subscribe. After all, isn’t it time we all grow up?” Offers Time magazine: “A live studio audience gives the podcast a late-night TV feel, but it’s funnier and more cathartic”; while Digital Trend says: “Advice that will make you laugh instead of cry”; and Romper says: “The podcast for those of us who are pretty much winging it.”
